Senior Executive Lawyer

Jody has over 25 years’ experience in trade practices litigation, including major cases involving misuse of market power, mergers, price-fixing and misleading or deceptive conduct. This includes seeking civil penalties and making joint submissions to the court about penalties. She was previously an Assistant Director at the ACCC.

Jody has been involved in a number of significant trade practices cases involving investigation of corporate conduct and complex commercial litigation. In previous roles, she has also advised various clients, including media clients, on other regulatory and enforcement issues involving statutory interpretation. She has experience conducting electronic litigation and strong practical IT skills which assist in conducting such litigation.

Jody managed the Air Cargo litigation team, earning her an Australian Government Leadership Network (Queensland) Excellence Award for Outstanding Individual Performance and an AGS Australia Day award in 2014. She worked as an investigations officer for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Recent experience

Jody's recent experience includes:

  • acting for the ACCC in the recent authorisation application for Telstra and TPG in the Federal Court in merger litigation involving Vodafone and TPG. Was on secondment at the ACCC during the Federal Court merger matter involving Pacific National and Aurizon, providing instructions for the ACCC
  • acting for the ACCC in the Federal Court, Full Federal Court and, most recently, the High Court involving cartel conduct by airlines, including Air New Zealand and Garuda – a long-running electronic trial with more than 50 hearing days involving disputes about evidence, the correct economic market and claims the conduct was compelled by foreign law
  • acting for ASIC in litigation involving major banks and insurance companies including in the recent outcome of $40 million in penalty against Insurance Australia Limited (NRMA)
  • acting for the ACCC in a number of s 48 cases (RPM) including FE Sports and Jurlique and current ACCC litigation Qualifications.
