Crowley, Matthew
Senior Executive Lawyer
Matthew is a member of our Tax team, with extensive experience in both State and federal courts. He has been a lawyer with AGS for more than 15 years with a focus on large-scale and complex litigation and was formerly a Senior Investigator with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
He has acted for a number of regulatory agencies, such as the ACCC, the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC), the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority. He acted for the ACMA against TPG for failure to provide access to the 000 emergency number. He also instructed the Solicitor-General in a successful High Court appeal for the ACCC. He advised and helped prepare the ACCC's Federal Court case against Informed Sources and 5 major petrol companies concerning anti-competitive conduct.
More recently he was a member of the Solicitor Assisting team for the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry.
Recent experience
Matthew's recent experience includes:
- acting for the Commonwealth in defence of a class action in the Supreme Court of Victoria
- advising the ACCC on a proposed merger of 2 petrol companies
- acting for the ACCC in proceedings in the Federal Court in relation to alleged contraventions of the Australian Consumer Law
- assisting ASIC with a number of investigations.
