Senior Executive Lawyer

Gavin is a senior member of AGS’s Constitutional Litigation Unit. With over 25 years of experience as a litigator, he is frequently involved in major constitutional litigation involving the Commonwealth in the High Court, including as the solicitor having carriage of the Commonwealth’s successful defence of the challenge to the Commonwealth’s tobacco plain packaging legislation.

Previously a member of AGS’s Native Title Unit, he handled a significant number of native title cases in the High Court and Federal Court. He led the national native title litigation practice for 4 years. In earlier years, he also had a general litigation practice as one of AGS’s in-house counsel.

Gavin's early practice was principally in workers compensation litigation. He also advised on a wide variety of administrative law and statutory construction topics, as diverse as the exhumation of corpses in Antarctica, and the fitness of persons to hold auctioneer's licences.
