For a number of years now, AGS has been the major sponsor of the Sir Harry Gibbs Constitutional Law Moot, which this year was held virtually over 3 days from 18–20 September.
The Gibbs Moot is run by Melbourne University Law Students’ Society in collaboration with major sponsors, the Australian Association of Constitutional Law and AGS. Since its inception in 2002, the Moot has become recognised as Australia’s premier constitutional law moot.
This year, a number of AGS lawyers were involved as judges at various moots throughout the competition. The Moot organisers were delighted to have AGS lawyers adjudicate and said ‘On behalf of Melbourne Law School and the Australian Association of Constitutional Law, we pass on our sincere thanks for dedicating your time to the competition’. They also passed their thanks onto AGS ‘Thank you again for your generosity in sponsoring the Moot’.
The Australian Government Solicitor Michael Kingston and Deputy Chief Solicitor Andrew Buckland, were scheduled to deliver addresses to the participants in person at the opening and closing ceremonies, but with the Moot moving online, they were invited to record video messages that were shared with participants. Michael Kingston reflected on the importance of the Moot for participants and AGS’s proud affiliation and sponsorship, while Andrew Buckland reflected on his career and work at AGS.
Thank you to our AGS judges and guest speakers for their time and effort in being involved in the Moot in 2021.
