AGS welcomes Bill Napier as Chief Counsel for AGS Commercial
Bill Napier has joined AGS Commercial as its Chief Counsel. Bill comes to AGS from Jones Day, where he led the Australian infrastructure practice of the world's fourth largest law firm. Bill will work closely with Adrian Snooks, National Leader of AGS Commercial and the practice's 100 legal staff to deliver strategic commercial legal solutions to government.
Bill is excited by the opportunity to contribute to the work and development of AGS and to the commercial policies and transactions which the Commonwealth is planning and undertaking over the next decade.
His experience in multi-disciplinary corporate practice has focused on lead negotiation in infrastructure and utilities projects, particularly in project structuring, development and operation; non-public mergers and acquisitions, including privatisations; banking and finance; public policy; and institutional reform.
As a partner at Herbert Smith Freehills for more than 20 years and at US-based global law firm Jones Day for the last 5 years, Bill has led legal teams advising both private and public sector participants on complex infrastructure. His public–private partnership and development experience includes the Stadium and the Olympic Village for the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and recently Barangaroo; his privatisations, mergers and acquisitions experience includes each of Sydney's 3 most recent completed toll roads, Etihad Stadium in Melbourne and the Sydney Desalination Plant; and his public policy work includes institutional reforms in a number of Asian jurisdictions. He has written and spoken widely in his areas of interest.
Bill 'works terrifically hard … has remarkable skills and is also a really nice guy, and that is important when you are on a long-running deal' according to a client in Chambers Leading Individuals 2017.
AGS is delighted to welcome Bill Napier to the role of Chief Counsel for AGS Commercial.
