Guy Aitken appointed as Commonwealth Queen's Counsel

AGS's Chief General Counsel Guy Aitken has been appointed as Commonwealth Queen's Counsel.

Guy has established a reputation as an outstanding counsel and adviser to the Australian Government and is respected across the Commonwealth. His appointment as Commonwealth Queen's Counsel is appropriate recognition for his exceptional abilities and expertise in Commonwealth law.

Since graduating in 1983 from the Australian National University with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), Mr Aitken has had an illustrious career as a government lawyer.

Mr Aitken has advised the Government on complex and difficult legal matters across the full range of constitutional issues. He has also demonstrated his expertise in areas of special importance to the Government – judicial review of administrative actions, public finance, national security, and parliamentary practice – as well as the development of many significant legislative initiatives. He has extensive experience in representing the Commonwealth and its agencies before a wide range of courts, including the High Court and Federal Court.
