Ian Deane PSM is a finalist in 'Government lawyer of the year'

AGS's Special Counsel Ian Deane PSM has been named a finalist in 'Government lawyer of the year' in this year's Lawyers Weekly Corporate Counsel Awards.

This event celebrates the success of individual in-house lawyers and legal teams across all industries in Australia. Winners will be announced at Sydney's Hyatt Regency on Friday 29 March 2019.

This year's awards are chosen from among 128 finalists across 25 categories, with the winners, according to Lawyers Weekly, 'set to cement their spot among Australia's elite corporate counsel community'. Ian is joined in his category by esteemed Commonwealth colleagues/clients and representatives of State and local governments.

Ian is described as the quintessential government lawyer, with 40 years of experience as a Commonwealth adviser across a vast range of government activity.

His vast experience and solid reputation gained in his career as a government lawyer, including as Special Counsel to Home Affairs (previously Immigration) since 2001, distinguishes him as a key candidate for this award.

His knowledge is so extensive and his advice so well-regarded that he is considered by departmental colleagues and members of government as the subject matter expert on migration law, providing advice to ministers and the Senior Executive Service with great influence.

This recognition follows Ian's Public Sector Medal award in 2013 for outstanding service to the Department.

We congratulate Ian and wish him success as he celebrates with colleagues on the night.
