AGS's Jackson Wherrett wins place in Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30
On Friday 18 May 2018, Jackson Wherrett of AGS's Office of General Counsel (OGC) was announced a winner in the Government category at the Lawyers Weekly '30 Under 30' Awards. The event, celebrated at Sydney's Hyatt Regency by over 500 of the 'legal profession's finest', according to Lawyers Weekly, gives industry-wide recognition to the 'top talent being exuded by those under 30 years of age'.
Two awards were announced for each of 15 categories, ranging from banking and finance, and dispute resolution to government, pro bono and technology, media and telecommunications, making up the '30 Under 30'.
Jackson is recognised for his work over the past 12 months, including demonstrated initiative and/or leadership within AGS, and additional achievements relating to membership of legal or external associations or groups.
National Leader of OGC, Leo Hardiman, said of Jackson that, 'He has very quickly established himself as a highly valued member of our team, sought out for his advice by colleagues and clients alike. Jackson is an extremely impressive and committed public lawyer, displaying skills and qualities usually attributed to someone of greater age and experience. He is always conscious of his client's goals and works to assist them achieve their desired outcomes. Impressively for someone of his age, Jackson has demonstrated excellent client relationship skills. He is a delight to interact with.' Jackson is also Co-Chair of the Attorney-General's Department's PRIDE Committee and the ACT Director of Out for Australia, an organisation focused on assisting young LGBTIQ-identifying professionals in their career development.
'At AGS, I have had the privilege of working with and learning from Australia's experts in constitutional and public law. I am also proud to have contributed to helping LGBTIQ people bring their whole selves to work, both within the Department as well as through my community work. I feel honoured to represent AGS in these awards' said Jackson.
