OGC lawyer wins 2 scholarships to study at Cambridge

OGC's Matilda Gillis is off to Cambridge after winning 2 major scholarships – the Henry Arthur Hollond Studentship and the Lionel Murphy Foundation Endowment's Lionel Murphy Scholarship.

The Henry Arthur Hollond Studentship will fund all Matilda's graduate course fees, all college fees to live at Trinity College, a stipend to cover expenses and a return flight from Australia to the UK. Matilda was also named as a 2018 Lionel Murphy Scholar. The Lionel Murphy Foundation was established in 1986 to provide a permanent institution to honour the unique contribution to public life in Australia by the Hon Lionel Keith Murphy QC.

Matilda has spent the last semester tutoring Corporations Law at ANU and will commence her Master of Law (LLM) in October. At Cambridge, she plans to specialise in international and public law, and to look at the interaction between those 2 areas in citizenship law.

'I am currently a lawyer in the Energy, Environment and Regulation team within OGC. We primarily provide constitutional and statutory interpretation advice on issues concerning the environment, agriculture and industry. My study at Cambridge will enable me to develop specialised knowledge in the areas of constitutional and international law and will expose me to comparative approaches adopted by other common law jurisdictions that will assist me to provide our clients with new and innovative approaches to legal issues.'

Congratulations, Matilda!
