Olivia Ronan wins National Golden Gavel Competition
On Friday 19 October 2018 at the Adelaide Convention Centre, AGS's Lawyer Olivia Ronan won the national legal public speaking competition. In a fierce battle of humour, wit and originality, putting each young lawyer's public speaking skills to the test, finalists must speak for 5 minutes on an outlandish topic, given to them only 24 hours prior to show time. So Olivia had just 24 hours to prepare her topic, 'Dropping briefs and lodging subpoenas – tips on dating a lawyer'.
Earlier this year Olivia had won the ACT local competition, so she was up against the other regional winners from across Australia in the national event. The winner is chosen by a panel of judges made up of members of the bar, local practitioners and members of the Judiciary, including Law Council of Australia President Morry Bailes, South Australian Law Society President Tim Mellor and SA Magistrate Anna Jackson, and the night was hosted by Julian Morrow from the Chaser.
Olivia is currently on a graduate rotation with Dispute Resolution.
Congratulations, Olivia!
