AGS has partnered with the ACT Consumer Law Centre (CLC) to establish a clinic to assist individuals who have legal issues around credit and debt, consumer law, insurance, bankruptcy and/or are facing economic abuse. The CLC is part of Care Financial Counselling Services and is a non-profit community legal centre that provides free legal advice and assistance to low and moderate income consumers.
The clinic will seek to ensure that clients are aware of their legal rights, can dispute a debt where there are grounds, or enter into an affordable payment arrangement so that they are not pushed further into financial hardship.
It is hoped these services will also benefit the court by assisting judgment debtors before hearing so that they come prepared, or to help resolve the matter with the judgment creditor prior to hearing.
Our lawyers who volunteer with the clinic have been invaluable in supporting this very important initiative to help disadvantaged members of the Canberra community.
