Employees who have attended our 'Introduction to FOI' course, or have equivalent training or substantial practical experience in dealing with FOI applications will benefit from this course as well it will be suitable for practitioners who have attended this course previously.
Course outline
This course is designed to significantly advance the practical knowledge and skills of FOI practitioners in the procedural aspects of handling FOI requests.
The topics discussed during the session are:

- Consultation with third parties both statutory and non-statutory
- Managing processing timelines
- Dealing with charges regimes
(pm)
- Strategies for dealing with voluminous requests
- Determining the scope of an FOI request and undertaking defensible search and retrieval.
Participants working in small groups explore and go through the particular procedures with guidance from the presenter. Being an interactive course, participants will prepare documents and make decisions in these matters.
Objectives
Participants will leave with a deep understanding of those procedural aspects of the FOI Act and will have an insight into how and when to apply them in their role as a FOI practitioner.

Our presenters are experienced AGS lawyers who have a great depth of knowledge of the government environment and who practise extensively in the areas of information access.
