Course outline
This course will equip your agency’s principal officer delegates to perform their functions under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 (PID Act), including conducting PID investigations. We will cover:
- introduction to the PID Act and to PIDs
- deciding whether or not to conduct a PID investigation
- how to conduct a PID investigation that meets legal requirements under the PID Act, Public Interest Disclosure Standard 2013, and other applicable laws
- mandatory referrals to the National Anti-Corruption Commission and police
- interaction with the National Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2022
- protections and secrecy under the PID Act.
This course is particularly designed for agencies that conduct PID investigations in-house. If your agency engages external investigators to conduct PID investigations, our half-day PID Act for Principal Officer Delegates may be more suitable.
This course does not cover the functions of authorised officers including deciding whether or not to allocate a PID – please see our PID Act for Authorised Officers course.

Our presenters are senior practitioners within AGS who regularly advise government agencies on all issues relating to handing public interest disclosures and the operation of the PID Act.
